Skylight and Window are sibling pieces investigating the power of the reanimation of the still image as documentary, and its ability to translate the spirit of nostalgia and being attached to my experience of the river’s time and place. The digital processing also encompasses a greater entropy, a digital decay and loss of information and history paralleling the environmental and colonial violence that has plagued the Tāmaki river and its surrounds, at the hands of settlers, and encroaching urbanisation and pollution. The polaroids act as portals to the soul of the river, frameworks to restrain the river or to be broken and eclipsed by its agency and power.
